Winners Of Science Plympaid Exams

The toppers of the zonal level National Science Olympiad examination and winners of the Science Quest at PSG Children’s School in Coimbatore on Friday. It was science all the way for the students who thronged the PSG Children’s School here on Friday.

From debates to written tests, they came prepared to dedicate the whole day to testing their knowledge, learning new things and experimenting with scientific principles.

More than 500 students from various schools in Coimbatore, Erode, Namakkal,Dindigul, and Karur attended the ‘Science Quest’ and the science camp organised by the Science Olympiad Foundation along with the Rotary Coimbatore Manchester.


“The programme is aimed at encouraging children’s interest in science and giving them an opportunity to assess themselves,” says T. Kanchana, coordinator, Science Olympiad Foundation. The zonal toppers of the National Science Olympiad, an examination taken by more than seven lakh students all over the world, were awarded certificates of merit at the venue. The first round of the examination was held at the students’ respective schools and the second round of the examinations was held online. The results of the second round were announced at the function. They were awarded certificates of merit. “The examinations give the students an idea of where they stand at the national level,” Ms.Kanchana said. A science debate and quiz followed for students from Standard III to IX on the mysteries of science.

The foundation worked towards identifying and nurturing future scientists and encouraging students’ participation in national and international science and IT competitions. It also sought to create a healthy competitive spirit among students through reward-based contests. The ultimate objective of the foundation, however, was to disseminate information on the latest developments in science and technology, Ms. Kanchana said.

For students of Standards VIII and IX, a two-day summer camp was started. “We are looking forward to gaining more knowledge about science from the camp,” says S.Ashok, a Standard VIII, Sri Ramakrishna Matriculation Higher Secondary School. A seminar on preparing for IIT/JEE/AIEEE for students from Standard X to Plus-Two was also conducted by experts from Chennai.
