23% Growth - Postel Dept
The Department of Posts registered 23 per cent growth in business revenue in 2007-2008 as against the previous year, according to the Postmaster General, Western Region, K.V. Sundar Rajan. A release from the department said it registered 22.5 per cent growth in 2006-2007 and 12.11 per cent growth in 2005-2006.The revenue from Speed Post alone was Rs. 8 crore and the total revenue for 2007-2008 was Rs. 26.85 crore from business development products.
Mr. Sundar Rajan said the volume of traffic in commercial and business mail, parcel mail, life insurance operations, cargo logistics and retail business was going up every year. The Postmaster General presented “Excellence in Performance” awards to 55 personnel of the Department, including postmen, postal assistants, pick-up agents, marketing executives and divisional officers, at a function held here recently.In addition to this, he presented awards to nine school students who had won the “Design a Stamp” contest.
