Representatives from the farming community taking a look at a new implement at the agriculture exhibition now on at the Suguna Kalyana Mandapam in CoimbatoreThe eighth edition of the Agri Expo – Agriculture and Dairy Exhibition – offers the latest in farm implements, equipment, seeds, fertilizers and pesticides. Assorted varieties of flora welcome the visitor at the Suguna Kalyana Mandapam, where the exhibition opened on Friday.

Though it is an agriculture exhibition, it cannot be strictly restricted to the farming community. It is an exhibition that all plant-lovers can visit. One can pick from saplings of flowers, sandalwood, teak, coconut, palms, ferns, hedges, etc. There are so many green options to choose from the 90 stalls for those who have no space outside the four walls of their house, and also for those who have huge lawns. For proper agriculturalists, there is a large area devoted to agriculture equipment like tractors, mowers, ploughs, etc. Tractors in different sizes and colours beckon the visitors. There are big and small pumps that can be used by farmers as well as individuals who have a large expanse of lawn.

Other farm accessories like solar electric fences to keep at bay straying animals, safety nets, sprayers, sprinklers, tissue culture materials, etc are available. “Many private players from Tamil Nadu as well as from other States have put up stalls. Government departments like the Department of Sericulture have also made their presence felt. It will also facilitate technology transfer, joint ventures and sourcing of dealers, retailers, etc.,” says P. Venkatesh, Managing Director, Interface Trade Fair Private Limited, organiser of the exhibition.

For those seeking knowledge on organic food and farming, there are stalls to show how it is made. There are stalls with organic foods. Both the aged and the young can choose from different health food mixes. Then there are the usual home-friendly items one finds in every exhibition. The exhibition is on till June 30.
