Chinniyampalayam Farmers’ Movement Protect
The Chinniyampalayam Farmers’ Movement for Protection of Living Rights has planned to stage a series of agitations, including a two-wheeler rally and representation to the Collector in protest against the proposed move to acquire agricultural lands for airport expansion. In a memorandum, president V.C. Jayapal and secretary P. Jagannathan said that acquisition of 1,025 acres of agriculture land will render the farmers refugees in their own land. Though a number of agitations were held against this nothing has yielded the desired result. The farmers said that a helicopter was spotted doing a sortie over the land proposed for acquisition. uspecting it to be a sort of survey for the acquisition of lands, the farmers waved black flags in protest.The movement had an emergency meeting recently where in it was also resolved to meet the Chief Minister. The sangham has asked the authorities concerned to convene a tri-partite meeting involving Airport Authority of India officials, Revenue officials and farmers so that the farmers could put forth their alternative plans for airport expansion.
