CITU Demand
The district unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has urged the State Government to ensure that the managements of plantations paid the new wage to their workers. A press release issued by CITU district secretary S. Arumugham thanked the Government for announcing Rs.102 to Rs.105 as the daily wage. The increase had come after a long struggle to get a better deal for workers.
He appreciated the Government for not bowing to the pressure by the managements not to announce an increase. But, the managements had moved the court against the wage increase and their petition was rejected. Mr. Arumugham also called upon the managements to pay the increased wage. If they still resisted, the Government should intervene to make the managements pay the new wage. The trade unions would have to stage protests if the managements of the plantations across the State did not relent, the release said.
