Dental Camp For Prisoners
Lions Club of Coimbatore Stalwarts and Sri Ramakrishna Dental College and Hospital conducted a free dental camp for prisoners at the central jail from May 26 to 28. According to J. Lalitha, secretary of the Lions Club, the prison staff led by Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Coimbatore range, P. Munivelu (holding additional charge as Superintendent) made arrangements for the conduct of the camp while Dr. Chandra Mohan, Dental Surgeon, along with 12 house surgeons and technicians from the Ramakrishna Dental College and Dr. Thanigai, Assistant Professor of Coimbatore Medical College organised the camp.
The camp was inaugurated by District Governor of Lions A. Annamalai. A total of 550 prisoners were screened of which 71 went through extraction, 76 for filling and 92 had scaling. The prisoners were given free medicines and some of them were referred to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for further treatment. President of the Coimbatore Bar Association K.M. Dhandapani also took part in the camp.
