Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has denied reports on fertilizer shortage in the State, with special reference to Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP). “There is no shortage or scarcity of fertilizers. The problem is with the supply and distribution,” he said, while addressing farmers at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here on Wednesday. He pointed out that equitable distribution by Tamil Nadu Co-operative Marketing Federation (TANFED) to farmers might not have been done. “This must have triggered the perception that there is a shortage.” In addition to ensuring equitable supply and distribution, the Minister said that the allotment for DAP import would be increased by Rs. 20 crore. The initial allocation was Rs. 30 crore.
