World Environment Day Celebrations

Area Commander of Home Guards, T.K. Dhanashekar said that Inspector-General of Police, Home Guards, T. Radhakrishnan had asked Home Guards to involve themselves in community service projects and awareness generation drives. To mark World Environment Day, Home Guards had planned to carry forward a campaign under the slogan “Tamil Nadu Home Guards for Cleaner and Greener Globe”. The ceremony for commencing the tree planting drive was attended by Deputy Area Commander, Rooshina Bhimani, Assistant Commissioners of Police, D. Shanmugapriya (East) and S. Srinivasan (Armed Reserve).
Mr.Mahali exhorted the home guards personnel to devote their leisure hours for rendering service to the community. The Home Guards personnel were also administered an oath to contribute their mite for conserving the ecology to prevent global warming effect. Mr.Dhanasekhar said that after the onset of the South West monsoon, Home Guards personnel would be starting a tree planting drive i.e., from August onwards for which the saplings are being provided by the District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen.
From July onwards, Home Guards personnel would be visiting every school in the city to give lectures, presentations on the need for conserving ecology and to reduce the effects of global warming so as to prepare and turn the future generations eco-friendly. Home Guards personnel took out a rally from the City Police Commissioner office to Home Guards office in Gandhipuram via Huzur Road, RTO Office road, Bharathiar Road to reach Gandhipuram. The Home Guards personnel carried placards and banners propagating the message on conservation of ecology. Along the rally route, the Home Guards personnel distributed handbills and pamphlets with information on the need for conserving ecology.
