Draft Photo Voter Rolls

The District Revenue and Election officials displaying draft photo voter rolls at the Revenue Divisional Office in the city on Monday. The revenue authorities on Monday released the draft photo voter rolls for all the 16 Assembly Constituencies in Coimbatore and the final list of polling stations as per the realignment of constituencies carried out as part of the delimitation exercise.

The Election Commission had notified the removal of five constituencies - Perur, Pongalur, Coimbatore East, Coimbatore West and Tirupur and the inclusion of the following seven constituencies - Tirupur South, Tirupur North, Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North, Sulur, Kavundampalayam and Madathukulam.

The other existing constituencies such as Mettuppalayam, Avanashi, Thondamuthur, Singanallur, Kinathukkadavu, Pollachi, Valparai, Udumalpet and Palladam remain unchanged.Hence, there is a revision of the polling stations list as well. Earlier, Coimbatore accounted for 15 Assembly constituencies and now it had become 16. In respect of the new and the existing constituencies there will be changes in areas under every Assembly segment. The areas under Avanashi Assembly constituency alone remain unchanged.

In Coimbatore, the Revenue Divisional Officer, M. Balachandran in the presence of Tahsildars T. Mohandoss (South) and Palanisamy (North) released the photo voter draft rolls and polling stations final list of Coimbatore North, Thondamuthur, Kavunndampalayam, Mettuppalayam and Kinathukkadavu. Similarly, the draft photo voter rolls of the other constituencies were released by the respective Electoral Roll Registration Officers at Tirupur and Pollachi and the Coimbatore Corporation in respect of Coimbatore South and Singanallur constituencies. The draft photo voter rolls are available for public scrutiny at the taluk offices, local body offices, Corporation offices and Revenue Divisional offices. The public have been requested to check for their names.

The authorities have also started receiving application forms requesting inclusion of names, deletion of names, change of constituency and amendments in electoral rolls. Inclusion of names will be possible for people who attain the age of 18 as on January 1, 2008 as the qualifying date, the officials said. The forms for inclusion will be verified, processed and the names will be included in the final rolls to be published within the next two months.
