Prize To SSLC Topper

Abdul Jabbar (left) are in the picture.The Coimbatore District United Jama-ath honoured students from the minority community who have topped SSLC, Matriculation, HSLC examinations and have appeared on the rank list of the IAS examinations.
This year, girls had performed better than boys. J. Shakila Banu scored 480 out of 500 for the SSLC examinations and M.S. Anis Fathima scored 452 on 500 for the Matriculation examinations. Around 100 students secured more than 80 per cent, A.Abdul Jabbar, General Secretary of the United Jama-ath, said.
Ajitha Begum, the only Muslim woman candidate from Coimbatore District to be on the rank list of IAS examinations was honoured. Other rank holders from the district, Arul, Viswanathan and Senthil Kumar, were also honoured. U. Ahamadullah, a first class Afzal-Ul-Ulama from Madras University, was felicitated. The students were given cash awards, merit certificates and medals. The Jama-ath was continuing a tradition started five years ago to encourage more students from minority communities to go in for higher education.
“Development of the community is possible only through education and employment. The community was still backward in education in Coimbatore,” Mr. Jabbar said. The organisation gave scholarships to Muslim students regularly and helped them get educational loans from banks.
It conducted seminars on “how to face the examination” for students from Muslim schools every year before the SSLC and Matriculation examinations began. Before the announcement of the results, it conducted career guidance programmes too. M. Ameer Althaf, Presidnet of United Jama-ath, presided over the programme. K.C. Mahali, Commissioner of Police, and S. Hyder Ali, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Wakf Board were present. S.P. Velumani, MLA, and V. Kannan, Dean, Medical College Hospital took part.
