Laptop Exhibition

The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) organised a one-day exhibition of laptop computers at the Collectorate here on Saturday. District Collector V.Palanikumar inaugurated the exhibition. As a part of its Information Technology promotional activities, the company has introduced a Students Laptop scheme.


School and college students can register on ELCOT’s website and the laptop would be delivered to their homes in three to four weeks, said N.Dhanalakshmi, Branch Manager of ELCOT. The laptops are given at a discount of 40 per cent. Depending on the configuration, the laptops are available for Rs.29,429 and Rs.31,717. They use open software and has added features such as web camera, Bluetooth and a wire-less Internet cord.



It also has C++ and Open Office in-built. However, other software can also be installed in them, she added. The exhibition displayed over 25 laptops. Students who wished to purchase could log on to http://www.elcot.in/ and register their names. “In this age of Information Technology, students should be empowered with the knowledge of computers and laptops can take them a long way in mastering the technology,” Ms.Dhanalakshmi said.
