Stray Horses Caught By SPCA

Stray horses caught by SPCA in Coimbatore on Saturday.Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) conducted a drive to remove stray cattle from the City roads on Friday and Saturday, following reports of stray cattle leading to accidents, causing hindrance to the traffic and creating scare among school children. District Collector, V. Palanikumar and Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan ordered to carry out the drive in which as many as 40 stray goats and two stray horses were removed.


The drive was conducted by SPCA Inspectors, J. Fredrick Vimalan and R. Balakrishnan under the direct supervision of the Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, V. Jagadeesan. On Friday, SPCA team removed 40 stray goats from the roads in Rathinapuri, Ganapathy, EB Colony, Thayir Itteri, Tatabad and Gandhipuram. Cases were registered under sections 11 (1) (h) (i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for abandoning the cattle on the roads.


The owners of the goats paid fines and took back their cattle. On Saturday, the teams raided East Venkatasamy Road, R.S. Puram and Thadagam Road areas and removed two stray horses.If the owners of the horses failed to turn up, the administration was planning to keep the horses at the SPCAs two acre land in Seeranaickenpalayam, officials said. The drive would be sustained to free the city roads from stray cattle menace, they added.
