Man Found Dead In Nilgiri Express
A 23-year-old man was found dead inside an air-conditioned compartment of the Blue Mountain Express, which reached Chennai Central from Mettupalayam, on Thursday morning. Police suspect the man was strangled before he was hanged on a metal rod attached to the upper berth of the ‘A1' compartment. Railway employees found the man, his face covered with a shirt, hanging from the rod by a cable wound around his neck. The man's identity is yet to be established. After passengers got down from the train, it moved to the Basin Bridge yard for cleaning. That's when employees noticed the body around 9 am.
Inquiries revealed that berth numbers 19 and 20 of the two-tier compartment, where the body was found, were booked in the names of a 73-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man from Coimbatore. The travel ticket examiner told the police that nobody in the age group of the deceased was among the compartment's passengers. An investigating officer said the man might have been killed about one-and-a-half hours prior to his body being found. "The post-mortem examination is expected to give us some clues," he said.
