Medical Care For Elephant

The officials of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) near Pollachi have stepped up the medical care for the critically injured camp elephant Pallavan (42) which was gored by another camp elephant Kaleem (55) on July 27.The injured elephant’s abdomen was protrudeing. According to the directions from the Field Director of the ATR, H. Basavaraju, a team of forest officials and veterinarians led by Range Officer of Top Slip, S. Thangaraj Paneerselvam and Forest Veterinarian, N.S. Manoharan operated the injured animal.

Because of swelling, the sutures gave way and the abdomen came out. Mr.Basavaraju told The Hindu that a team of experts from Kerala and Chennai had stepped up the medical care. A belt had been put on the elephant to keep the abdomen intact. Pallavan is being given the best medical care and close attention to save the life, Mr.Basavaraju said.
