District Collector V. Palanikumar launched a drive for door-to-door verification of family cards under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in a bid to eliminate bogus cards. The Collector visited one of the houses on Race Course and verified the details. Mr. Palanikumar said that the district had 14,75,063 family cards attached to 1,691 PDS outlets. A total of 2,730 government servants were being deployed for the verification exercise.
The drive was being monitored by the District Revenue Officer, S. Prabhakaran and the District Supply Officer, Durairaj. The staff had been instructed to check whether the address existed and the card holder remained in that address besides verifying the number of persons mentioned in the card, he said. The Collector appealed to the public to cooperate with the staff to eliminate bogus cards.
Subsidy for LPG cylinder
The Collector has announced that the administration had made arrangements for extending the subsidy of Rs. 30 per cylinder for households with single LPG cylinder connection. Following instructions from Mr.Palanikumar, District Revenue Officer S. Prabhakaran held a meeting with the LPG dealers and officials of the petroleum corporations on July 1 and discussed the procedures for extending the benefits. The Government had fixed Rs. 30 as subsidy for those having a connection with 14.2 kg cylinder and Rs. 11 for those with five kg cylinder. The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation would remit the subsidy in advance to the LPG dealers. Those having single LPG cylinder connection can approach the dealers to register their names.
