5,000 Students Brushing Together
Over 5,000 students brushing together at an event for Limca Book of Records sponsored by Pepsodent-Hindustan Unilever at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore on Thursday.On Thursday at the stroke of 12 noon, more than 5,000 students gathered at one place and brushed their teeth to propagate awareness on the need to brush teeth properly.Sponsors for the event were Pepsodent, dental care products manufacturers and Hindustan Unilever Limited.
The students gathered there in the morning to paint the longest stretch of 7.5 km to enter the Limca Book of Records organised by Elite Circle, said K. Pradeep Kumar, Founder & president.Priya Nair, Head of Oral Care of Hindustan Unilever, told news persons that people never took brushing seriously. The objective was to teach the children the right strokes of brushing and the duration for which one should brush. One should definitely brush their teeth for at least two minutes. Hindustan Unilever was planning to reach out to more than 200 schools in Tamil Nadu to promote this dental care campaign.
The event was already held in 10 towns. The objective behind targeting the schoolchildren was to inculcate the habit of brushing twice a day at an early age. Ms.Priya Nair quoted a research that stated that the incidence of dental disease in Tamil Nadu was among the highest in India. The study was carried out amongst 600 children each in the age group of 5-12 years in Chennai. The research revealed that approximately 80 per cent of children examined were affected by dental caries which was a cause for worry, hence the decision to carry out this campaign.
