63rd Anniversary Of The Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
The 63rd anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (on August 6 and 9, 1945) was observed here by Shanti Ashram along with PSGR Krishnammal College for Women and the Global Network of Religious Organisations. Shanti Ashram commemorates the days by organising the Coimbatore Peace Festival.The programme brings together children and the youth who learn to explore the many dimensions of peace-building.More than 400 students from 31 schools, colleges and youth organisations came together.
The focus of this year’s celebration was on violence and its impact on youth. Violence faced by youth in the countr today and initiatives taken by the youth themselves in combating it were discussed. A short film on Hiroshima was screened. Children led the inter-faith prayer and community projects for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS were conducted.Two inter-faith ethics education workshops for children were also held.
