300 Nominations From Tamil Scholars
There are 157 entries for the “Eyatrtamil” category, 27 for “Isaitamil”, 30 for “Nadakatamil”, 32 for “Ariviyal Tamil” and 18 for “Oodaka Tamil”. There are also 45 entries received under the general category.A jury consisting of language experts from the above mentioned areas, under the chairmanship of industrialist N. Mahalingam, met recently to draw up guidelines for selection. Since the number of entries below the age of 40 was small, it was decided to base the award on the work and not on age.
The jury would meet on September 5 to select the final 10 candidates who would receive the awards. They would be given a purse of Rs. 25,000, a shield and a citation, each by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at a programme to be held here.
