PSG Students Presented Memo To Collector

Students from aided courses of the PSG College of Arts and Science on Monday presented a memorandum to the Collector asking him to intervene in the opening of the college as promised. The college had declared a holiday from August 8 to 17 following protest by the students of aided courses in the wake of the review meeting of the select committee appointed to look into the proposal of the Government to convert the PSG colleges into a unitary university.However, on Monday, classes began for undergraduate students belonging to the self-financed courses. There was also a parents’ meet for students belonging to this section.

A notice board outside the college and individual letters to students of aided courses instructed students to come to college on different dates. First year students should attend on August 25, while for second years’ it was August 29 and for third years’ it was August 27. Collector’s request
Protesting against the staggered dates, student representatives met Collector V. Palanikumar and requested him to instruct the college to begin classes for all students on the same day.

Mr. Palanikumar said that he had requested the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education V. Rajagopalan and Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam to instruct the college to begin classes for all students on the same day.“I have spoken to the Secretary and Principal of the college and suggested that a suitable day next week be selected for opening the college for all students,” Mr. Rajagopalan said.
