About R S Puram
Rathina Sabapathi Puram or RS Puram is a well-planned colony originally promoted by the Coimbatore municipality in the 1950s for housing. DB Road is the central road that connects all the other streets. In recent years, it got a commercial flavour and is now dubbed as the retail hub of Coimbatore. Perhaps this makes it one of the major shopping outlets of the town, which has seen an influx of IT/BPO players in recent years.
All major brands have their outlets here. Apart from this, a number of government offices, advertising agencies, mobile showrooms and banks have their branches here. The place is a melting pot of cultures, with a lot of North Indian settlements. Likewise, all prominent eateries starting from the Bachelor’s Mess to the hi-end ‘That’s Why’ are located at RS Puram.
Well-known restaurants like Annapoorna and Aryaas too have their branches here. Retail showrooms of SKC, Vandana Sarees, Titan Watches, Tanishq Jewellers, Nike, Reebok, UpBeat, Coffee Day and Barista are present here. Although the real estate value has seen a slight decline in the last few months in Coimbatore, land value at RS Puram has stayed put.
It costs around Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000 per sq ft. Though the demarcation of commercial and retail is not present in the city, prices seem to be the same in both segments. The property value of residential apartments costs around Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per sq ft at the lowest end. The rental values are on a high, with the lease in residential areas costing between Rs 25 to 30 per sq ft, per month. The lease rent value per month stands firm at Rs 40 per sq ft in the commercial segment.
