Radio Mirchi, an FM radio channel, recently distributed CD players to children with visual impairment.
According to a release from Vinay Prashant, Station Head of Radio Mirchi, the project “Freedom from Darkness,” undertaken as part of the channel’s 61st Independence Day celebrations, aimed at providing audio news reels to children with visual impairment. Since none of the schools had CD players, the channel requested the general public to donate them for carrying forward the project.

Commissioner of Police K.C. Mahali was the chief guest. He said that every individual had the responsibility to help people with disabilities. He appreciated the efforts of the special teachers who played a defining role in the life of a child with disability. H. Samson, President of the non–Governmental organisation Cheran Region Christian Society for Disabled Children, Senthil Kumar, Programming Head of Radio Mirchi, and staff and students of special schools participated.
