District Collector V. Palanikumar has warned that those attempting to smuggle sand to the neighbouring States would be booked under Rule 36 A of the Tamil Nadu Mines Concessions Rules. The action would result in seizure of the vehicle and a penalty of Rs. 25,000 besides initiating criminal proceedings against the individual. Transportation of sand to other States would be deemed as unlawful as per the Government Order MS No 158 of the Industries Department dated August 25, 2008.
