Student Designed Car Tested At Coimbatore

Formula Manipal, a 15-member-team of engineering students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), has designed and built an 600cc race car for participation in the international race car design competition FSAE (Formula Society of Automotive Engineers), Italy between September 20 -22, 2008. The car went through extensive tests at Kari Speed way, Coimbatore for 20 days and is estimated to cost US$ 15,000. The car designed by MIT students has been built with Honda CBR 600 F4i 2002 engine model and is touted to be the only entry from Asia.Intake of the engine has been redesigned by the engine and aerodynamic team.


Manipal Formula car was unveiled on the 4th of September 2008, at the Manipal University main building (MAHE building) at 10 AM and Dr. Ramdas Pai, chairman, Manipal Education, Medical Group, unveiled the car for public display at the college campus. Team leader Kaushik Mani, a seventh semester student, told reporters that about 150 universities from across the world would take part in the competition. Moreover, the competition will be attended by global leaders of automobile industry and race car design experts across the world.



Several reputed automobile industries such as Delphi TVS Limited, Ricardo Wave Software, Rane TRW Steering System, Altair engineering, Adsync-Marketing Support, TEMBA Shipyard and TT Travels have supported the team as additional sponsors. The members of the team comprise Kausik Mani, Shelav Jain, Vineet Jain, Siddhartha Jain, Arjun Samara Divakera, Ankit Kumar Banka, Srikanth Toppaladodi, Ratnesh Kumar, Aditya Raghunandan, Sagnik Niyogi, Rachit Mathur, Nishant Jain, Eklavya Singh, Aayush Gupta, Dhawal Bavishi, Ankit Banka (driver).
