CORDYS Opened R&D Centre In Coimbatore

CORDYS, a Netherlands based software company, opened its R&D centre in Coimbatore on Monday. Founder-CEO Jan Baan said his company was looking to utilise the engineering talent available in the Coimbatore region. “There is tremendous resource in India and especially in this part of the world that is why we chose Coimbatore for setting up our R&D centre,” Mr Baan said, inaugurating the centre,. “We also looked at Kochi but the cost of establishing an office in Coimbatore was cheaper and easier than Kochi,” he told . Moreover, engineering graduates from Kerala colleges were ready to relocate to Coimbatore, he added.

“The hill station Ooty is nearby and the air connectivity to major cities is also available here,” he said, highlighting some of the city’s features. Talking about the company’s new initiative ‘process factory’, he said that it is an industrial way of using IT for business. The company has already tied up with PSG College of Technology and is looking at a few other engineering and management colleges to host a university programme. “Students and teachers can access the process factory free of cost,” Mr Baan said, adding, by using the online facility the students can get latest hands on experience with latest collaborative technologies, which can be used to develop Business Mashup Applications. He further said the company was planning to announce a worldwide MashApps competition next month. Interested students could take part in the competition by subscribing to the ‘process factory’ and building the most innovative and easy to use business mashup application with commercial potential, he added.
