Information Directory For Senior Citizens Released

Udavum Karangal, a non-Governmental organisation that rehabilitates homeless children and the mentally-ill destitutes, has released an information directory for senior citizens. It includes telephone numbers of important services and organisations in Coimbatore. The directory, titled ‘Udavi,’ has telephone numbers of homes for the destitute, hospitals, ambulances and blood banks, religious institutions, organisations offering financial solutions and legal assistance. It also has telephone numbers of travel agencies, packers and movers, marriage halls, convention halls, recreation clubs, theme parks, resorts, funeral undertakers and even crematoria.

Vidyaakar, the founder of Udavum Karangal, said the directory was aimed at lifting the spirits of senior citizens, who are largely neglected and seen as a liability. ‘It is imperative to make relevant information accessible to the senior citizens,’ he said. ‘The seniors living in and around Coimbatore can make use of the directory to get the numbers of various services and organisations,’ he added. The directory is available for Rs.70 at Udavum Karangal office behind Dhandumariamman Temple. Interested persons can buy it at the office. For details, call 0422-2302030 / 2301090.
