Police Dog Squad Training

Handlers of the Coimbatore City Police Dog Squad imparting training to the pups from various district police units at the Police Recruit School Grounds in Coimbatore. A male Labrador dog ‘Ceaser’ and its two handler constables E. Madasamy and K. Nagarajan of Tirunelveli completed their basic training for six months at Police Detective Dog Training Centre of the Coimbatore City Police which was functioning since 2001.

The dog and its handlers were trained by Instructors N. Mahendran and Soundarajan and course in-charge Sub-Inspector K. Manian. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), S. Rajendran handed over the course completion certificates on Saturday. The Dog Training Centre has imparted training for 51 police detective dogs in explosives and narcotic detection.



This included tracker dogs for helping with the investigation in criminal cases. Further, 15-day refresher courses has been conducted for 118 detective dogs from the police units in Coimbatore city.Next to Chennai, a police detective dog training centre exists only in Coimbatore catering to the needs of the police units in South India. At present, four detective dogs from Puducherry and one detective dog from Tirunelveli are undergoing training at the centre in Coimbatore.
