Traffic Diversions

Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore city, K. C. Mahali, has announced that tight security arrangements will be made in the city from September 3 to 7 in view of the Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations and idol immersion procession.Talking to reporters, Mr. Mahali said that a separate bandobust scheme has been prepared.


Mr. Mahali said that 208 idols have been installed at various public places by various Hindu organisations. The immersions would take place in two batches on September 5 and 7 and there would diversions as per the following pattern: On September 5 (Friday) around 3 p.m., the immersion procession would wind its way from Sangamam street, Sundarapuram to Kurichi tank and during the procession vehicles coming from Pollachi to Coimbatore city would be diverted at Sundarapuram via Saradha Mill Road, Podanur Road to reach Aaatuppalam and vehicles going from the city towards Pollachi would be diverted via Podanur Road, Saradha Mill Road and reach Pollachi Main road.


On September 7 (Sunday) at 10 a.m., the first immersion procession would start from Thernilai Thidal and reach Muthannankulam and during the procession the vehicular traffic would be operated via Vysial Street and Sukrawarpet Road. On the same day, another procession would start from Theppakulam Maidan to Muthannankulam and during the procession , traffic from Mettupalayam Road towards south side would be diverted via Gurudwara Street and R.S. Puram.

When the procession reach the Flower Market on Range Gowder Street, vehicles coming from old flyover would be diverted on NH Road. Vehicles coming from Mettupalayam Road from southern side would be diverted via Oppanakkara Street, Variety Hall Road, old flyover and Brooke Bond Road. When the procession reaches Sukrawarpet, vehicles from Western side would be diverted at three posts, DB Road.


When the procession reach Karuppa Gounder Street, vehicles from Vysial Street would be diverted via Perur bypass road, NH Road, Ukkadam bypass road and when the procession reaches Thadagam Road, vehicles will be diverted at DB Road and TV Samy Road to reach Brooke Bond Road. On the same day another procession would start from VKK Menon Road at 3.30 p.m. and proceed towards Muthannankulam. Vehicles coming from Sathyamangalam Road would be diverted via Chinnasamy Street from 2 p.m. Vehicles coming from Mettupalayam Road would also reach Chinnasamy Street via ARC Junction, Sivananda Colony, 105 Feet Road and 100 Feet road.

When the procession reaches North Coimbatore flyover, vehicles from Thadagam Road would be diverted via Cowely Brown Road, Mettupalayam Road, ARC Junction, Sivananada Colony, vehicles from Perur would be diverted via Ukkadam bypass road. Vehicles coming from Ukkadam would be diverted via Oppanakkara Street and old flyover. Vehicles would not be allowed to pass through via Brooke Bond Road. When the procession reaches Sukrawarpet, vehicles from western side would be diverted via DB Road.
