23 Cr Sale In TASMAC @ Diwali
With Diwali lifting the “spirits” of the tipplers, the Tamil Nadu Government-run TASMAC outlets, the sole agency selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the state, did a roaring business across many parts of the state on Oct 26 and 27.While TASMAC shops clocked Rs 23 crore worth sales in Coimbatore District, it sold liquor worth about Rs 5 crore in Tiruchirappalli district. With nearly 500 Tasmac shops and attached bars in Coimbatore district, the marketing agency recorded sales worth Rs 12.44 crore on October 26 and 27, Diwali day, official sources said. The Tirupur division of TASMAC registered sales of IMFL worth Rs.7.56 crore on Oct 26 and Rs.3.95 crore worth liquor on Oct 27, the sources said. Special order of Rs.25 crore worth liquor had been placed for the district for the two days, the sources said.
A report from Tiruchirappalli said the district unit of TASMAC recorded record sales of 4,500 boxes of IMFL (brandy, whisky, rum) and over 5,000 cases or over 60,000 bottles of beer on October 26, netting Rs 2.5 crore. On Diwali day, the turnover touched Rs 2.55 crore with the agency selling 5,200 boxes of IMFL and 4,800 boxes of beer, officials said. Tiruchirappalli city accounted for 80 per cent of the sales in the two days, they said.
