Flood Alert Sounded In Coimbatore

A flood alert has been sounded in the district as heavy rains have resulted in the Noyyal and Upper Bhavani rivers flowing in spate. People living in low lying areas have been asked to move to safer places. The rivers and other water sources in the district receive received copious inflows following a week's continuous rains.

Similarly, residents of Mettupalayam, Sirumugai and Nellithurai in the rural limits have been asked to be alert since Upper Bhavani was receiving heavy inflows, resulting in discharge of surplus water, the sources said.
