BSNL Adding 36 Cell Sites

Thirty-six cell sites would be added to the present 270 sites, for better coverage in Coimbatore SSA, within a couple of months, a top BSNL official said today. Talking to reporters on the developmental activities plan for 2008-09, on the occasion of BSNL Week being celebrated fro Oct 1-7, BSNL Principal General Manager (In-charge) A Shajahan said that 14 cell towers have already been commissioned in the last two months in this SSA.

Stating that 24,000 more CDMA WLL connections and 29 WLL towers have been planned at various locations, he said new exchanges would be established at Kanuvai, Kalampalayam, Karumathampatti, Chinnavedapatti and Sulur Air Force. The department has plans to expand broadband capacity in Saibaba Colony, Thudialur, Tiruppur, Pollachi, Bharathiar University, Kurichi, Ramanathapuram, TVS nagar, Ganapathy, Kovaipudur, PN Palayam and Peelamedu, following huge demand for connections, he said. Shajahan also said that the department would launch new booster cards for BSNL prepaid mobile customers and under Jodi Offer, every booking of mobile postpaid connection would fetch one 'free jodi' card with identical number.
