CCC Demands Power Cut For HT Consumer To

The Coimbatore Consumer Cause has said that power cut should be declared for High Tension (HT) consumers and these consumers should pay the current consumption charges only for the actual consumption and not for the sanctioned load. In a memorandum to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, the consumer organisation’s secretary K. Kathirmathiyon said when the availability was low, the demand was increasing by providing new HT connections. This had led to widening of the demand-supply gap. Further, lavish and decorative lighting was still permitted, even at peak hours. The licensee (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board) could ban the use of power for such purpose.

The consumer organisation said consumers were seriously affected by the power problem in the State. “For the last one year, the supply of electricity by the licensee is very bad and no one knows when the supply would be available and when the power would go off.” The power interruptions started with one hour a day and were nearly seven hours now. Other than Chennai city, the rest of the State was facing power cuts for several hours. The burden should be shared equally among all consumers, he said.
