M. Kannappan Arrested

MDMK leader V. Gopalsamy, alias Vaiko, is arrested on charges of fomenting secessionist violence in support of the LTTE and taken to prison. Also Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) presidium chairman and former union minister M. Kannappan was also arrested on similar charges in his native village in Negamam in Coimbatore district. Vaiko was arrested on October 21, his second arrest, at his Anna Nagar residence by the Tamil Nadu 'Q' branch police, it was reported by the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) news service and Indian newspapers Tuesday.
He was charged under sections of the IPC and Unlawful Prevention Act and remanded in 14 days of judicial custody. He was first arrested in 2002 under POTA by the then Jayalalitaa government for his fiery speech at a MDMK meeting supporting LTTE. Vaiko had said in his speech on Tuesday, "…if the need arises, I will be the first man to take up arms in support of Sri Lankan Tamils. I will gather youths all over the country for this purpose".
