Sankara Won Asian Hospital Management Award

The sankara eye care institutions here have been declared winner of the asian hospital management award ahma for its diabetic retinopathy project for rural india programme. the award under community service category was received by dr r v ramani managing trustee of the institutions at a function held at manila philippines on sept 26. The project aimed at preventing avoidable blindness due to diabetic retinopathy and creating awareness among the rural population about this health problem ramani told reporters here today.


the award a plaque recognised and honoured hospitals in asia that carried out best practices in hospital management. ahma-2008 garnered 233 entries from 55 hospitals and 15 countries and sankara was the only award winner from india ramani said. the project was started in january 2007 with the onjective of identifying people having diabetic mellitus who have a possibility of getting diabetic retinopathy he said.
