Avoid Private Players In NH Road Constructions
Tamil Nadu BJP today urged Union Highways Minister T R Baalu to drop the idea of constructing Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road on Build Operate and Transfer system, as the public would be burdened by way of paying a high amount as toll to the private operators.
In a letter to Baalu, the State BJP secretary, G K S Selvakumar said that public were already burdened with payment of toll on Coimbatore-Pollachi Road (Aatupalam) and Nilambur Palakkad Bypass, which were given to L and T for 30 years. As the private operators were fleecing the public in the guise of toll collection, it would be better for the Government to take up the construction of Coimbatore-Mettupalayam NH 67 on its own, to ''save the public,'' he said. Being a busy highway, the school going children and office goers would be put to lot of hardships during the peak hours, Selvakumar said.
