COINDIA Getting Soft Services Assistance
COINDIA (Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association) will be getting soft services assistance to speed up the sharing of knowledge and experiences from the advanced countries, COINDIA president, G. Rajendran said on Friday.
Talking to reporters along with representatives of the constituent industrial and trade associations of COINDIA, Mr. Rajendran said that COINDIA, the 23rd cluster to be approved by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and UNIDO, has bagged the first position in performance. The Rs. 60-crore physical infrastructure facilities of COINDIA have reached 97 per cent completion and the remaining three per cent relating to construction and electrical works would be achieved soon. COINDIA has sought Rs. 7.5 crore for providing soft skill training to industrial workforce.
COINDIA was identified to make a study to explore the possibilities synergising the efforts of various agencies like UNIDO, National Productivity Council and Quality Control Institute (QCI) focusing on the following areas: learning manufacturing techniques, skill upgradation, certification of units and improvement in productivity. Comparing the figures of 2002-03, Mr. Rajendran said that foundry turn over had risen from Rs. 1,000 crore to Rs. 2,500 crore, exports including valves and machined castings had risen from Rs. 100 crore to Rs 200 crore and pumpset and motor turnover had risen from Rs. 1,200 crore to Rs. 1,600 crore
