Meeting On Revision Of Electoral Rolls

Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta addressing a meeting on revision of electoral rolls at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Friday. The final electoral rolls in respect of all the districts in the State will be published on January 10. The State that has 3.98 crore voters on the rolls till the draft roll publication has received six lakh claims for inclusions. The total number of electorate in the State now stands at 4.04 crore, said Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta here on Friday. He was talking to reporters after reviewing the work on summary revision of electoral rolls in which Election Officers and Electoral Roll Registration Officers of Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts took part.


Coimbatore Collector V. Palanikumar, Deputy Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation V. Shantha, Tirupur Corporation Commissioner M. Asokan and Revenue Divisional Officers from both the districts took part in the meeting. Mr.Gupta said that the draft electoral rolls for districts other than Chennai, Kancheepuram and Coimbatore were published on November 10. The draft rolls for Coimbatore district would be published on November 17. Claims and objections would be received till December 2. The State had reached a 99 per cent mark in respect of photo voter rolls.



Mr. Gupta said that electors who had come from other constituencies, districts and States could continue to use the same card. They would have to only ensure inclusion of their name in the electoral rolls in respect of the present place of residence. Those who want photo voter ID cards for address proof could approach the designated Electors Photo Voter Identity Card centres (EPIC) and get a fresh card on remittance of Rs. 15. Regarding the delay in the issuance of photo voter ID cards, Mr.Gupta said the EPIC centres were busy with the electoral roll revision work and after the roll revision the centres would function in full pace catering to the demand.



Review meeting for Erode and Karur districts would be held in Karur on Saturday morning and for Salem and Dharmapuri districts it would be held in Salem on Saturday afternoon. On the by-elections for the Thirumangalam assembly segment, Mr.Gupta said it was for the Election Commission of India to decide and added that it could be even held along with the Parliamentary elections.
