Parent Want To Donate Her Son's Organs

Kavitha with her five-year-old mentally challenged son at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday. It touched a chord in the heart of everyone present at the grievances day meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday - a petition from a distraught parents of a mentally challenged five-year-old boy. They wanted to donate his organs as they cannot anymore withstand the agony the boy is facing.

Kavitha and Rajaram sought the help of authorities in getting their wish fulfilled so that they could at least “see him alive through others”. “The boy never used to sleep. He behaves in a violent manner. He beats and bites himself. Though his eyes are open, he cannot see. He can neither stand up nor talk,” the mother explained amid sobs. “ He cannot even recognise the presence of his parents though his eyes are wide open.”

They said they approached many doctors for treatment. All of them said the boy would not survive for long. Medical help is beyond their means and resources. “Unable to bear the agony further, we decided to knock on the doors of officials seeking help and permission to donate his organs. So that we can see him in somebody else, at least.” “We are sad that we will be losing our child. But his existence proved nothing to us except seeing him writhing in pain.” Officials said that the case would be referred to medical experts for their opinion and based on which further action would be initiated.
