The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Workers’ Union (affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions) has alleged irregularities in the appointment of workers on contract and sought the intervention of the District Collector to end it. A statement alleged that only 100 out of the allocated 400 workers had been appointed. Instead of appointing the sanctioned number of workers, the board forced the existing ones to work for 12 hours to 16 hours.
