Police Arrested Robbery Criminals

The Coimbatore Rural Police have arrested five persons from Salem on the charges of robbing truck drivers. On December 18, a five-member gang had intercepted a cement laden lorry and assaulted its driver Ravi (42) of Otteri in Chennai. After tying him up on a tree they robbed him of Rs. 18,000 and a cellular phone. Later the gang intercepted a cargo laden mini truck and assaulted its driver Ponmuthu (34) of Tirunelveli. He was also tied to a tree and relieved of Rs. 4,500 and a cellular phone. The truck was found abandoned near Perundurai bus stand.


The Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, Pramod Kumar, DIG of Police, Coimbatore Range, P. Sivanandi formed special teams under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District (incharge), K. Shanmugavel. The special teams arrested Sathish (21), B. Senthilkumar (27), Ramalingam (44), P. Ramu alias Ramasamy (20) and Perumal alias Murgesan (28). It is learnt that the gangsters used to dress one among them as a woman and lure the truck drivers and rob them. All the five were remanded to judicial custody at Pollachi sub-jail.
