Ring Road Project Will Be Implement Shortly
The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu today said that the bridges across Cauvery and Coleroon rivers, to be constructed as part of the four-lane programme,would be completed by December 31. The contractor had asked for extension of time in the wake of the heavy rains that has been lashing Tamil Nadu for the past few days, he said.Talking to newsmen here today, he said proposals for ring roads from six corporations including Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Tirunelvei,Coimbatore,had been received,and projects would be implemented shortly.The new Corporations had been asked to send their proposals for ring road.
Meanwhile the State Highway Minister Vellakoil Saminathan said 6400km stretch of roads had been affected due to rains,and Rs.65-Crore would be needed to repair them.As many as 115 minor and 15 mid-size bridges had either collapsed or were damaged.Besides roads had been completely cut off at 15 places in the state.In Tiruchirappalli, 450km stretch of road had been damaged,and it would cost Rs.Five crore to repair them.
