Tamilaga Viavasayigal Sangham Convened Meeting On December 18

The Tamilaga Viavasayigal Sangham has convened a meeting on December 18 at Sanmarga Sangham to chalk out an agitation in protest the continuance of damages to crops caused by wild elephants and wild boar in the fringe areas of the reserve forest. Sangham president M.R. Sivasamy in a release here has said that for the last two years such incidents were on the rise.

On occasions straying of wild animals often resulted in loss of human lives. This has resulted in crop production falling by 15 per cent forcing farmers to give up agriculture. This had indirectly resulted in the prices of vegetables going up. The existing laws relating to wild life and forest protection were concerned only about protecting forest wealth and wildlife. There was no scope to protect human lives and the agriculture crop. This should change. Solar fencing had failed to fetch the desired results, the release added.
