Tight Security Cover In Coimbatore

Tight security cover has been thrown in and around the city, in view of the 12th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya tomorrow,even as various organisations have planned agitations for different reasons. While Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam has decided to resort to rail-roko in the city, nearby Podanur and Tirupur, BJP, RSS and 'sangh parivar' have planned to stage demonstrations to condemn the recent terror attack in Mumbai.


In view of this, over 2,000 police personnel, including armed guards were deployed to keep vigil across the city, including places of worship, Government installations, Airport and other major buildings, police sources said. Besides local police, additional reinforcements from Tamil Nadu Special Police, Rapid Action Force and CRPF would also be deployed, they said. Stating that checking of vehicles and lodges has been intensified since last night, the sources said pickets have also been erected in sensitive areas, bus stands, railway stations and places of large public congregation.



Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed in the rural areas, particularly Tirupur and Mettupalayam, considered to be communally sensitive, they said. Anti-sabotage teams,bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dogs have been kept in a state of preparedness. Meanwhile,Railways have also tightened the security and parcel booking has been cancelled for a couple of days.Tracks are being checked continuously, the sources said
