Young Letter Hero
Letters and words make up his little world. For the four-year-old S.Gowtham, reading is serious business. He reads any book, newspaper or magazine in English that he can lay his hands upon. He constantly surprises his teachers at the Shree Sarasswathi Vidyaah Mandheer, Alangombu, with his uncanny ability to read full sentences that are way beyond the ability of any child his age. An LKG student, the only other hobby Gowtham cherishes is playing the keyboard. He doesn’t particularly enjoy watching cartoons on television and doesn’t get bored at all as long as he has something to read.
His parents and teachers feel that his exceptional knack in remembering the letters and the words lends him the ability to recognise the words whenever he sees them. He can even decipher scripts written in a cursive hand. Reading unfamiliar texts may take him a while and pronunciation may not be right all the time. He is also good with numbers, his mother says. But, for a child his age, Gowtham has set a sort of a benchmark for children and parents who wish to make it into the world of letters.
