Autonomy alone is the solution to the vexatious Sri Lankan Tamils issue, said CPM politburo member Brinda Karat here on Sunday. She told reporters here on the sidelines of a conference against dowry that Sri Lankan Tamils were different from LTTE and the mercy shown towards Sri Lankan Tamils should not in any case favour those outfits supporting LTTE. A permanent political solution was the need of the hour to end the ethnic issue, she said.
Blaming DMK government for being passive to the problems faced by exporters, Karat said the financial meltdown had severely affected the industrial cities across the country including Coimbatore and Tirupur.Since orders were depleting, there were a number of job cuts in export-oriented units. Karat said, though Tamil Nadu had sizeable number of export units, both the Centre and State had not shown any interest in extending any relief to the industrial sector, more pertinent to the export units. Welcoming the establishment of National Intelligence Organisation (NIO), she said it should work in coordination with the states to bring in positive results.
