According to K. Ilango, president of the association, public sector and private companies, including Southern Railway, Bharath Earthmovers Limited, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Steel Authority of India, Larson and Toubro, Suzlon and Cochin Shipyard, participated. They were looking out for vendors to supply to them. The response from the units here is a reflection of the current situation. With the slowdown, even some of the bigger companies were not working to full capacity. Hence, they too attended the camp looking out for opportunities. Though some of the sourcing companies already had vendors here, the number was limited.
Infrastructure was a key need and would be a growth driver in the future. Hence, they would need more vendors to supply to them. Most of the participants explained their needs to the visitors and gave out registration forms. “We plan to do more such programmes as the response from the industry is encouraging,” he said. The association also planned to organise a meeting jointly with the corporation for registration of the small and medium-scale units with the NSIC. This would facilitate entry of the units for government supplies.
