The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), a national university with its headquarters in Delhi, is establishing six BPO training centers in India. The proposed centers will be based in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Puducherry. It is speculated that IT services major, Accenture, will collaborate with the university for setting up the training centers.According to M. Shanmugham, IGNOU Regional Director, Madurai Regional Center, the centers will train IT graduates and others interested in BPO operations. They will be supported by School of Vocational Education and Training, IGNOU, which is set to launch a diploma course in BPO from February 2009. The university aims to leverage opportunities offered by the BPO sector amid the global financial turmoil.
