District Collector V. Palanikumar presenting the Manimeghalai Award to a self-help group at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday. The Women Self-Help Group (SHG) Federation from Vedapatti Panchayat was chosen for the Manimeghalai Award for 2007-08. District Collector V. Palanikumar gave away the award, which carried a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and a citation, at a function held on Monday. At the district level, Vijayalakshmi Women SHG from Kinathukkadavu Panchayat Union, Jansirani SHG from Thondamuthur Panchayat Union and Annai Indira Women SHG from Palladam Panchayat Union were also selected for the award, which carried Rs.10,000 cash prize and a citation.
SHGs from 19 Panchayat Union levels were given citations for best performance. They were Mahatma Gandhi SHG (Gudimangalam), Sri Kottai Mariamman (Pongalur), Rojakootam (Kinathukkadavu), Amman (Periyanaickenpalayam), Roja (Anaimalai), Mazhalrgal (Annur), Kalpana Chawla (Thondamuthur), Sircar Samakulam (Sri Mariamman), Thamarai (Avanashi), Pournami (Sulur), Muthu (Palladam), Sri Amman (Sultanpet), Bharatiar (Madathukulam), Durgalakshmi (Pollachi South), Neeliamman (Udumalpet), Om Sakthi (Madukkarai), Thazhampoo (Tirupur),Vanambadi (Karamadai) and Penguin (Pollachi North).
