95 Sovereigns Gold Recovered
A 10-member special team of the city police nabbed on Sunday three persons on charges of chain snatching. A city police press release said gold jewellery weighing 95 sovereigns and valued at Rs. 11 lakh were seized from them. Following complaints that some persons who came on two-wheelers snatched gold chains from women, City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) N. Kamini ordered the formation of the team.
Investigations by the team, headed by Assistant Commissioner (Crime-Central) P. Chandramohan, revealed the involvement of history-sheeters Manikandan (30), Raja Selvam (32) and Satish Kumar (24). On Sunday morning, the team nabbed Manikandan and Raja Selvam when they allegedly tried to take away money from a bakery at knife point. The two led the police to Satish Kumar.
