Idol of goddess decorated with Rs 1.5 Cr currency ...

The presiding deity of Ambikai Muthumariamman Temple in Kattur was decorated with currency notes worth Rs 1.5 crore today, as part of the Chithira and Vishu, the traditional new year of Tamils and Malayalis.The pedestal on which the idol of the Goddess had been kept, was fully decorated with bundles of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes and the background adorned with Rs 1,000 notes, temple authorities said.

Currency notes in these denomination were laid in front of the pedestal in three square feet area and the total value would come about Rs 1.5 crore.The currency notes for decorating the deity were given by 50 persons, who would take it back.The deity was adorned with gold and diamond ornaments with an estimated value of Rs one crore, they said.

Meanwhile, the 12-ft tall Mundi Vinayagar (Lord Ganesha) idol in Puliyakulam in the city was decorated with four tonnes of veg and fruites , as part of the new year.The diety was adorned with the garlands of apple, orange, and water melon.
