Institutions should be allowed to create own syllabus

Students should be motivated to take up collaborative learning. This can only be possible if the government gives more freedom to educational institutions to create their own syllabus, A.K. Pattabiraman, Head, Accreditation Committee for South India, Tata Consultancy Services, Chennai, India, said here on Monday.

Delivering the convocation address at the Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, he urged students and young graduates to concentrate on e-learning for knowledge creation.“Academic stature of higher education in India should be improved by providing all possible facilities to inculcate ideas in the young minds towards research and development. You can meet the present challenges only through innovative spirit and by enforcing discipline and competency at all levels,” Mr. Pattabiraman said.

He maintained that recession was more in the mind than in the market. He exhorted companies to take note of the social and economic changes occurring around them to counteract recession effectively. R. Venkatesalu, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, and R. Joseph Xavier, Principal of the college, offered felicitations. The chief guest distributed degree certificates to nearly 250 graduates.
